ART & DESIGN

Intent - 2020 - 2021

The intentions are to become proficient in various visual and digital Art techniques such as: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and animation. We want to encourage students to produce creative work which explores and reflects on ideas, observations, recordings and experiences in their own and others’ lives.
We want to explore different historical and modern cultural movements within Art as well as a range of artists, craft makers and designers. This will help enrich their understanding of the importance in our modern culture, possible career choices and an interest in the subject.
From that we can evaluate and analyse, therefore relates them back to their own work and other creative expression using artistic language to show their understanding.

Implementation

  • A diverse and thorough exploration of artists, techniques, ideas and skills.
  • An understanding of an artist’s purpose, reasoning and techniques they utilized into their own work to express their ideas and views.
  • In depth research and recordings that will develop their ideas independently.
  • Understanding of the visual and digital elements through experiences, observations and experimentation.

Impact

  • Broader development on learning and observing the world they live in.
  • To use feedback and self-evaluation for students to reflect on their own work to understand the next steps and assist in their future development.
  • To link aspects of the formal elements to student outcomes; formal elements are crucial for the scheme of work.

Primary

Early Years Foundation Stage

In the Nursery and Reception classes, art is an integral and vital part of everyday life. Students are encouraged to create with different mediums which are readily available for them to choose to use. Much of the work is self-initiated. Students are assessed for the early learning outcomes against using materials and being imaginative as well as handling materials.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 students are taught art through the Edison learning curriculum, which integrates topic work and National Curriculum standards. In Year 1 and 2 they are using a range of materials to design and make products; using drawing, painting and sculpture and looking at colour texture, line, shape and form. They also learn about a range of artists. There are more opportunities for art in our co-curricular activities and on special wow days.
